JUNE 21: CARNEGIE HALL CITYWIDE CONCERT SERIES x MAKE MUSIC NEW YORK: SPECIAL CONCERT WITH HAZMAT MODINE. | 6 PM

Hazmat Modine's music tips its hat to New Orleans–style honky-tonk with dashes of klezmer and gritty jug-band blues tossed in for good measure. Propelled by the earthy vocals and scorching harmonica of band founder Wade Schuman, the group’s unique sound is buoyed by sousaphone, drums, guitar, and banjo. For nearly a decade, the band has toured in more than 40 countries and performed with an eclectic assortment of musicians, from Kronos Quartet to Natalie Merchant.

Gleason's Gym: It may look like an unassuming boxing gym in Brooklyn, but Gleason's Gym perhaps the most famous boxing gym in the country. Owned by Bruce Silverglade, Gleason's Gym moved to Dumbo in 1986 - making it one of the neighborhood's oldest businesses! Gleason's Gym has trained some of boxing's most famous champions - including Muhammad Ali, and currently trains mostly women champions, including Heather "The Heat" Hardy!

F45: Born in Australia, F45 Training merges 3 separate leading-edge fitness training styles into one 45-minute class.  The "F" stands for functional training, a mix of circuit and HIIT-style workouts, geared toward everyday movement.  "45" is the total amount of time for sweat-dripping, heart-pumping fun. Their outdoor sessions bring the same calorie-burning intensity as our in-studio workouts, from some of the most picturesque areas around the city.  Led by their world-class instructors, members engage in a fun and challenging 45-minute cardio and strength workout.  Because most of the exercises have members use their own body weight, no equipment is necessary. 


Drink And Draw
WEDNESDAYS: DUMBO DRINK AND DRAW (DUMBO ARCHWAY)

Get your creative juices flowing in our free Drink and Draw, hosted with Creatively Wild Art Studio + Dumbo's best artists. These workshops are especially designed for adult artists and all levels are welcome. Drinks available for purchase from Dumbo Station.

Drink and Draw is held from 6-8pm.

Materials fee is $20; you are welcome to bring your own! Easels supplied for use for all participants.

JUNE 9. HEAVY MOMENTUM: DUMBO'S ICONIC ELEPHANT WITH CAM.  | 6 - 8PM

Join acclaimed local Brooklyn artist Craig Anthony Miller aka CAM, as he guides you in creating Dumbo’s iconic Elephant using paint, stencils & your imagination! CAM will demo applying color theory and exploring shapes and line work to create impact in a piece & discuss his journey in defining the visual fabric of Dumbo.

Creatively Wild Artist & sculptor Samuel Boden will lead our Figure Drawing Class with a live model. Learn how to capture anatomy & various parts of the figure: hands, feet, head and neck, as well as hair, clothing & gesture. Learn how to assemble the parts of a figure into a dynamic whole to create a dynamic composition!

Study the art of watercolor painting while taking inspiration from Dumbo's stunning epic Archway! This spectacular plaza is one of New York City’s most unique public spaces. At 45' high, the epic cathedral-like Archway inspires awe. Capture this beautiful space using urban watercolors, learn application techniques, color mixing & theory, and how to mix neutral tones. Led by Sally Novak, one of the leading artists at @CWASDumbo.

JUNE 30: HAND LETTERING QUOTE + COLLAGE WITH SAMANTHA DION BAKER. | 6 - 8PM

Dumbo-based Samantha Baker will lead a fun workshop- taking a favorite letter quote, short excerpt from a poem or song using your own natural handwriting, she will demo how to add collage & color with pencils, pens and/or paints to create a finished piece of art. You can work in a sketchbook or on a single piece of watercolor paper. Please come with your choice for a quote or song/poem excerpt to letter, and keep your selection to 30 words or less. If you are unsure, Samantha will have a few options to choose from, or you can work on the same quote she selects for the project.

Brooklyn Public Library, Adams Street Branch will offer activities specifically for kids on Thursdays from 5-6pm.

Following the kids activities, a DJ will spin in the Archway until 8pm! Come for the kiddos, stay for a picnic dinner + dance party.

On Fridays in the Archway, Jan Bell of the Brooklyn Americana Music Festival curates a Happy Hour Concert Series, featuring Americana, folk, bluegrass, country blues and jazz acts.

JUNE 11. ERICA MANCINI TRIO with special guest SMOKEY HORMEL | 5 - 7 PM

Erica Mancini is a multi-instrumentalist (accordion/vocals/percussion/keys) based in New York City. Mancini plays in dozens of different projects, ranging in style from avant-garde, experimental, noise, jazz and free improvisation to Bavarian polka, county, classical, klezmer, folk/Americana, pop, cumbia, rock, and metal. She has performed at venues ranging from Lincoln Center, The Museum of Natural History, The Whitney Museum of Modern Art, The Rainbow Room, World Trade Center One, Bryant Park Metropolitan Club and The New School, and performed in settings ranging from DIY art parties in Brooklyn warehouses to shows in cemeteries, on boats, and in metal working factories. She has recorded for commercial work and performed on-screen as well as composed original themes for stop-motion animation. Erica is constantly expanding her use of electronics with the accordion and improvisation to create original sounds and explore new musical territory.\

Guitarist Smokey Hormel's touring and recording career includes work with Tom Waits, Beck, Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer, Neil Diamond, Norah Jones and Adele, among many others. He explores American Roots music, Western Swing, Bossa Nova, and African music in both his work as a sideman as well as with his own musical endeavors Smokey's Secret Family and Smokey's Round-up.

JUNE 18. CHARLES BURNHAM TRIO | 5 - 7 PM

Charles Burnham is an American violinist and composer with a unique highly imaginative style that crosses genres, including bluegrass, delta punk, free jazz, blues, classical and chamber jazz. He often performs with a wah-wah pedal. He initially became renowned for his work on James "Blood" Ulmer's Odyssey album. The musicians on that album later performed and recorded as Odyssey the Band. Charles was also a member of the String Trio of New York, and currently plays in the 52nd Street Blues Project, Hidden City, We Free StRings, Improvising Chamber Ensemble and the Kropotkins. He has played on recordings by Living Colour, Susie Ibarra, Elysian Fields, Rufus Wainwright, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Mario Pavone, among others.

Join Dumbo Station for its very 1st Pride celebration! Live DJ sets, drag shows, and raffle prizes! Grab a special drink + bites from Dumbo Station and shop from their local vendors. Pride Party is from 3-8pm.

JUNE 11: PAUL BREAUBRUN TRIO | 5 - 7 PM

A scion of Haitian musical royalty, Paul has spent his life living to the beat. Paul weaves his impeccable guitar skills, rich vocals, musical ingenuity and cultural history together into a unique and transfixing sound he calls 'Roots/Blues'. He sings in a  smooth melange of both English, French and Creole (the native tongue of his Haitian roots).

JUNE 18: LOS CHANTAS TANGO TRIO | 5 - 7PM

Los Chantas are a multinational tango ensemble based in New York City. (The name is old Argentine street slang for tricksters or fellows up to no good.) Their repertoire draws from the great Argentine tango tradition from the guardia vieja to the present. The group has been playing in milongas, festivals, clubs, theaters, and other venues in and around New York since its inception in 2002. With original arrangements of songs by Gardel, Troilo, Salgán, Piazzolla, and others, and a playful, improvised style, Los Chantas infuse classic tangos with new life and unique flavor. Featuring David Hodges on bandoneón, Emilio Teubal on piano and Sergio Reyes on violin.

JUNE 25: AMAURY ACOSTA TRIO | 5 - 7PM

Cuban American Drummer and Producer Amaury Acosta brings three trios to Washington Street this summer, all exploring his signature jazz, funk, soul and Afro Cuban fusion.

JUNE 12 @7PM. THE MOBILE DRAG PERFORMANCE UNIT. 

Featuring performances by Brita filter, Lagoona Bloo, DJ Lady Simon.

The Mobile Drag Performance Unit is a series of pop-up curbside drag shows that celebrate the art of drag while creating enlivenment through community engagement and performance. Bringing something usually relegated to the interior of a bar or restricted by age requirements, this mobile unit aims at creating accessibility by turning the interior inside out, transplanting, accessorizing, glamming with neon, all set on wheels, a rolling stage of fun.

Blazing brass, gutbucket funk, Roma accordion, and a big bass drum: This just scratches the surface of what Slavic Soul Party! brings to every performance. The band pumps a strong Balkan brass sound through the filter of life in New York’s outer boroughs, making new music that Global Rhythm describes as “some of the most danceable Balkan-flavored pop this side of the Adriatic.”


Washington Street Open Streets Summer
SATURDAYS: THE SIX FOOT PLATFORM (WASHINGTON STREET)

On Saturdays, Washington Street becomes the setting for our new project: the Six Foot Platform Experimental Residency Program. Presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Arts Council, this project will feature eleven Brooklyn-based artists in full day residencies on Saturdays throughout the summer.

Artist residency from Noon - 9pm. Saturday June 19 through Saturday September 4.

JULY 7. DRAWING WITH TYLER SCOTT | 6 - 8 PM (5:30PM CHECK IN)

Start your journey of learning about drawing and develop confidence in your sketches and created compositions. We’ll explore classical principle techniques for achieving accurate proportions and linear perspective (using a combination of pencil, charcoal, and inks) such as  drawing curves, using contour and straight-line approximation techniques, employing horizontal lines and vanishing points to give your drawings a sense of form and accuracy, using midpoint establishment to ensure the two major halves of your drawings are accurate, and more! This class is an excellent introduction to learn how to draw.

JULY 14. BROOKLYN BRIDGE COLLAGE WITH JAIMIE WALKER | 6 - 8 PM (5:30PM CHECK IN)

Create striking collage art in which the Brooklyn Bridge stares out at you from the canvas much like an old friend or a familiar face. Walker sees the bridge every day, and still marvels at its beauty. Learn how to layer found objects and how to create depth to create a striking composition. Take home a piece of the Brooklyn waterfront!

Turn your favorite landscapes into provocative, abstract compositions! In this fun and educational session, we will work with fluid abstraction to learn about genre, place and scale, and color and light to create form. Work from personal subject matter and/or photos of your favorite places to create a masterpiece in acrylic paint that you can hang proudly in your own home! By the end of this experience, you'll have learned new skills to apply to future artistic endeavors and developed creative confidence.

The magician is sick in bed but the show must go on! Enter, “The Magician’s Assistant,” who blunders onstage and has to entertain the crowd, without knowing how to perform any magic tricks. This adult friendly physical comedy for kids 3-10 is about the transformative power of believing in yourself and asking for help.

Creator, performer, and clown Melissa Smith switches characters with expert comedic flare, finding a delicate balance between chaos and control, vulnerability and confidence. “The Magician's Assistant” encourages empathy, laughter, and eating your veggies!

But defying genres while transcending eras and resisting clichés is hard to pin down when it comes to artistry—unless you’re talking about Miss Tess, who does all of that and more on her new release, The Moon Is an Ashtray (2020). Swinging for the fences and from the branches of jazz, country, blues and old school rock and roll, she has employed all of her influences and talents on a tour-de- force, while cleverly taking standard perspectives and ideas, like the definition of a love song, to
task.

Part vintage bazaar, and part old-fashioned town square, the Brooklyn Flea pops up in the Dumbo Archway with 40+ vendors every Sunday from 10am - 5pm.

Where are these events?

The Dumbo Archway is our plaza under the Manhattan Bridge. Drop 155 Water Street or 28 Adams Street into maps and it will take you right there.

Our Washington Street experiences will take place on the corner of Washington Street and Water Street.

What happens if it rains? 

All events in the Dumbo Archway will continue as planned - its one of New York's only covered outdoor spaces!

The Six Foot Platform will be moved to the Dumbo Archway if possible; busking concerts will be cancelled if the weather is bad. Check our social media for updates @dumbobrooklyn.

What about COVID safety?

The safety of our audience and staff are our greatest priority. All events will follow current City & State Covid-19 safety regulations.

Are the sites physically accessible?

Yes! All Daily Dose of Dumbo venues can accommodate patrons using wheelchairs, but do keep in mind that both the Archway and Washington Street are paved with Belgian Blocks. If you have other accessibility questions, please contact dumbo@dumboncy.orgto ensure we’ll be able to meet your needs.
