Once a year we gather for a deep dive into this fantastic community. This year - we celebrated DUMBO's futurists!
Alexandria Sica - President - the Dumbo Improvement District
On Monday March 2, 2020, 250+ members of the DUMBO Improvement District turned out to Time Out Market in Empire Stores to celebrate all things Dumbo.
They sampled treats from Juliana's Pizza, Ivy Stark Modern Mexican, Pat La Frieda Meat Purveyors and David Burke Tavern, toasted with Time Out Market cocktails, and celebrated some of Dumbo's rockstar futurists, the recipients of this year's DUMBO Dozen and Magic Feather awards.

ICYMI: ALEXANDRIA SICA’S STATE OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD ADDRESS
DUMBO BID President Alexandria Sica welcomed everyone, noting she would be our Dumbo Spirit Animal for the evening. BID Board Chair Sayar Lionel and Mehul Patel from Midtown Equities, the team that redeveloped Empire Stores, gave opening remarks as well.

Next up, Ms. Sica introduced all of the fantastic new businesses that have opened in DUMBO since our last Annual Meeting.

The next portion of the presentation highlighted policy work that the DUMBO BID undertook in 2019, including a report with the Center for Urban Future around the tech sector in Dumbo and Brooklyn, work on the F Train, a new $10 Million Dollar grant awarded to Dumbo and Downtown Brooklyn by the state for capital improvement projetcts, and Ms. Sica's dream pitch - a ferry from New Jersey to Dumbo! Did you know that 3 times many riders exit the York Station through the emergency exit than through the turnstiles? The MTA numbers are severely underreporting the severity of the situation at York!

Next, Ms. Sica went through the incredible events and art installations the BID produced in 2019.

Then, Ms. Sica talked about the street reconstruction project in the neighborhood, as well as other neighborhood improvement projects including the new York Street safety triangle, and York St bike lane, transforming the plaza under the Brooklyn Bridge, building out Bridge Park 2, and the BQE. The presentation concluded with the awarding of the Magic Feather and Dumbo Dozen awards!
