HeartSeat, a bold sculptural seating element made from a re-purposed water tank, was installed in the Pearl Street Triangle from May 2015-May 2016, the Dumbo Improvement District.
Created by Brooklyn-based design studio Stereotank, founded by architects Marcelo Ertorteguy and Sara Valente, HeartSeat was originally commissioned for the juried Times Square Valentine Heart Design Competition, where it greeted thousands of visitors last month first as a heart-shaped participative installation and then transformed into the current public seating element. Trading bright lights of Broadway for the quieter but no less iconic spot next to the Manhattan Bridge, HeartSeat offered an intimate and interactive addition to DUMBO’s Pearl Street Triangle plaza.
This was the third year that DUMBO offered a second home for winners of the Times Square Valentine Heart Competition.
Presented in partnership with the NYC Department of Transportation’s Art Program. Special thanks to the Times Square Alliance.
