Dumbo Walls: Murals for the Movement / Standing In The Gap by Sophia Dawson

In 2021, the Downtown Brooklyn + Dumbo Art Fund–a project of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and the Dumbo Improvement District, as part of New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative–installed MURALS FOR THE MOVEMENT, a trio of murals with works by Cey Adams, Victor "Marka27" Quinonez and Sophia Dawson.

Murals for the Movement in an an artistic endeavor by Street Theory Gallery intended to amplify communities with uplifting large-scale murals by Black Artists and Artists of Color.

“The concept stems from the necessity to acknowledge the legacy of the generation that came before us that fought for our rights and freedom as we continue to contend for the destiny we deserve. It also speaks to the importance of spiritual warfare and how a battle must be won spiritually before it is won physically." - Sophia Dawson

This mural was installed on Front Street in partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation's Art Program in October 2021.
