GETTING TO THE ARCHWAY
The Archway Under the Manhattan Bridge is a public plaza in DUMBO, Brooklyn. It’s on Water St between Anchorage Place and Adams St.
THE HEADLINER | AT 6:15PM. The Good Folks are an indie collective hailing from New York City. Established in 2016 by high school best friends (and unofficial brothers), Clive Baird and Corey Powell, The Good Folks pull from a diverse collection of influences, ranging from Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye to Jacob Banks and Dermot Kennedy to develop their unique sound that encompasses a blend of traditional blues and soul melodies coupled with today’s modern approach to production. The Good Folks released their first EP, Vol. 1 in December 2016 followed by Vol. 2 in November 2018, via TuneCore. Along with their second EP release came their first ever visual for crowd favorite, “Leave Me (Alone).” The Good Folks has been a TuneCore artist since 2016.
Motteo is an emerging alt-pop artist releasing his first EP, I’m desperate for you, in summer 2019. Set to punchy synth textures with catchy pop melodies, Motteo writes about a deficit of intimacy. Never having been in a long-term relationship, the artist writes about his experience and what he’s witnessed in modern dating and social/online life. Each song on the EP is meant to capture a different aspect of romantic desperation. Motteo has been a TuneCore artist since February 2019.
THE OPENER, FOR KIDS AND KIDS-AT-HEART | AT 5:30PM. The Bouncin' Bridge Boys is a "super(duper) group" of musicians Collin Couvillion (Rock and Roll Playhouse, Fuerza Bruta), Nick Horner (Nick and Luke, Porch Stomp) and Lautaro Burgos (Strings and Skins, Fuerza Bruta) who play a mix musical genres to get audiences’ bodies moving and get kids grooving.
THE ARTIST IN GALLERY CUBED | ALL NIGHT. Andy Van Dinh was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where he earned his BFA in Painting at the University of Calgary. He currently lives in New York where he obtained his MFA in Painting at Hunter College.
In order to cope with my own diasporic perception I use modes of negation and fantasy in artmaking to conjure ideas of estrangement. This feeling of displacement is difficult to explain. There’s this comprehensible, measurable distance between where I am and over there, but there exists a strange and intangible distance between the two that takes on many ambiguous forms. This indecipherable distance has formed into an ongoing enigmatic desire, which informs the use of the imaginary and fantasy in my works as temporary solutions to issues of self-hoodand nameless longings.
This fluctuating world with its fluctuating identities invite us to analyze the unreal, terrifying, tragic yet inviting world of language and desires. I create realms of ambiguous alternate spaces where the self and the other, here and there, the present and the past, can be consolidated. I offer a sensory documentation of translations and transferences of my becoming and being. I am to be found over there, over here, and in between, (re)adapted, (re)located, and (re)settled.
I am the distillation of displacement; struggling between forgetting and remembering. Operating among the various shapes of longing; like light falling, like touching a bruise.
