7/18 | Live at the Archway: Akinyemi / Los Cumpleaños / Puppetsburg / Joshua Reynolds

Join us and the Found Sound Nation team at Live at the Archway this week! We've got tropical, peak-summer vibes from rising Nigerian star Akinyemi and psychedelic Colombian superstar group Los Cumpleaños. Plus, the Puppetsburg ladies take us on a puppet-filled exploration of pop music, and Joshua Reynolds brings his DUMBO-inspired photography to the Gallery.

Live at the Archway is DUMBO's signature series: featuring dynamic musical performances + spectacle opening acts for kids & kidults + a pop-up art gallery + interactive art experiences, in a magical, only-in-DUMBO setting. Always free, all ages, + rain or shine.

The Archway Under the Manhattan Bridge is a public plaza in DUMBO, Brooklyn. It’s on Water St between Anchorage Place and Adams St.

ON STAGE AT 7:30PM. Akinyemi (ah-kin-yeh-me) is a 24-year old rapper, voice actor, songwriter, model, and producer. A Queens Village-native, he’s studied the craft from folks like A Tribe Called Quest and Kendrick Lamar, but also views bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers as a huge inspiration. Akinyemi is known for getting vulnerable in his lyrics, his sound often reflects “journey”, and self-reflection, with lyrics that embody introspection and self-care. Akinyemi’s name means “fated to be a warrior” in Yoruba, a Nigerian tribe in which his family originates. He often pushes this “warrior” dialogue in his music, with his Instagram mini-series, “Warrior’s Words” and “Tales Of Fate”. His upcoming debut album has this “warrior” theme showcased all over it. Akinyemi’s music has found solace overseas too. His debut EP, “summers”, is now playing in all Adidas Originals flagship stores worldwide. Akinyemi has done Syncs & VO work for Commercials with major brands like Sprite, Mercedes, 7/11, Hollister, Spotify Radio, Estrella Beer, 7/11, Reebok & Champs.

ON STAGE AT 6:15PM. Los Cumpleaños play tropical rhythms from Colombia washed in psychedelic soundscapes. They seamlessly combine heavy grooves and experimental sounds into a energetic, danceable, one-of-a-kind musical experience. Los Cumpleaños features virtuoso percussionist/vocalist Nestor Gomez from Barranquilla, Colombia, Lautaro Burgos from Chaco, Argentina on Drumset as well as Eric Lane on Keyboards and Alex Asher on Trombone from the USA. Members of Los Cumpleaños have played with a variety of notable artists including: Anival Velazquez, Lizandro Meza, Porfi Baloa y sus Adolocentes, Juan Piña, Alfredo Gutierrez, MAKU Soundsystem, Orquesta Dee Jay, Beyoncé, Joan as Police Woman, People's Champs & The Superpowers.

FAMILY JAM FOR KIDS AND KIDS-AT-HEART AT 5:30PM.  Puppetsburg does interactive, contemporary puppet shows with artisanal, handmade puppets for children ages 4 months to 5 years old at various locations across Brooklyn and Manhattan. The 45 minute shows involve dancing, instruments, dress-up "photo-ops," and bubble time, followed by a puppet story. Regularly exploring concepts like counting, simple vocabulary, hygiene, and hipster culture, Puppetsburg features “celebri-puppet” guests in a unique show that is entertaining for infants, toddlers, and parents alike.

The Pop Music show features the Rock N’ Roll Lion who agrees to play guitar in Clementine’s band which sets off her pop music phase. Young viewers of the show will dress like Baby Gaga, sip lemonade like ‘yonce, and experience Madonna and David Bowie throwbacks.

THE ARTIST IN GALLERY CUBED | ALL NIGHT. Raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, Joshua Reynolds moved to Brooklyn via the US Virgin Islands in 2007. From an early age, he was influenced by art of all kinds, from visual to musical, martial arts to culinary arts. Joshua has been inspired to show how to unlock the potential energy we all have within us.

His exhibit, “It All Adds Up”, is a compilation of his creative expression, which includes "Inspirational Abstract" art (multi-colored layers of paint splatters and graffiti style lettering that form words of inspiration), as well as vibrant graphic style photography. Ranging from portraits to cityscapes, symmetry, reflections and low angles are part of Joshua's signature style, which is meant to give the viewer a fresh perspective on the city around them. These mediums merge, forming "Inspirational Abstract PhotoGraffix”, a cohesive blend of photography, spray paint, paint markers, positive energy and love that comes together to create a powerful piece strengthened by the unity of each element.
