Open Washington Street
The Dumbo Improvement District welcomes you to Washington Street - an NYC Open Street in the heart of Dumbo, a pedestrian friendly zone with one of the City's loveliest vistas! Grab some lunch or a coffee, friends and neighbors to hang out between Front and Water.
SCHEDULE
Washington Street is open for pedestrians 7 days a week. From November 1 - December 31, 2022, it will be open from 10:00am-6:30pm. These hours are subject to change based on construction and other factors.
The block will remain open for thru traffic and local deliveries/pick ups/drop offs from 6:30pm-10am, when Open Street is not active.
Washington Street was designated as an Open Street through an executive order signed by Mayor de Blasio in July 2020. In May 2021, the City Council and Mayor passed legislation to make the Open Streets program a permanent fixture in New York City. The BID is planning to upgrade the street furniture along the block, including outdoor dining seating for Joe Coffee, Upwell and Sweetgreen.
A note about ongoing area construction: The Dumbo Improvement District is working closely with NYCDDC + Halcyon regarding street closures due to the capital construction project. We will adjust the hours of the Open Street as needed to respond to the changing construction conditions.
