Ode to DUMBO (2017 Edition)

Oh little ‘hood of Dumbo,
Twenty Seventeen is at its close,
So let’s look back on the year we had
in poetic form, not prose:

Dumbo this year–the land of stars
so we’ll just name a few:
Bjarke Ingels set up double shop,
JJ Redik moved in too.

Did you spot Leo DiCaprio
on the Ceconni’s patio?
or watch our own Ana Gasteyer
on that Match Game show?

Awesome events galore this year
like the reunion of Gaijn a Go-Go,
Live at the Archway’s artist interactive
and Nick Jonas’ Archway solo

The Pearl Street Triangle
turned ten years old,

The tree lighting
was not so cold,

And thousands snagged a mini dumbo
at the first ever Great Dumbo Drop,
Raising funds for local schools
amid wind that would not stop 🙂

So, Celestine or Cecconi’s?
Bluestone or Sugarcane?
Dumbo is now a Dining Destination
The New York Times did proclaim!

Wanna shop at Scotch & Soda or at John Fluevog?
City Chemist or The Modern?
Randolph Beer lets you serve yourself
step up to take your turn.

Which is your favorite Brooklyn Roasting now:
Washington Street, the one in West Elm or on Jay?
Will you cowork at Dumbo House or The Wing?
A choice for another day!

This year we watched the eclipse
in true wacky Dumbo style
on top of epic new roof decks–
the whole neighborhood was out for a while.

More epic news in 2017!
Bridge Park 2 will soon look like this!!!
And best of all, New York Mag agrees (see Sept 1)
our Belgian Blocks will always exist!

Let’s end with the loveliest story of the year
which is to say:
the story of Besnik Sokoli
Dumbo building super by day…

By night, an Olympic hopeful skiing phenom
training to represent his home country of Kosovo.
Rooting for Nik is a true delight,
Donate to help him go!

A very happy new year to you all
2018 is just in time –
We’ll see you January second
standing in the Yumpling Truck line 🙂
