#DUMBODownload: April 9 Edition

You know what time it is— it’s time another issue of the #DUMBODownload! Plenty of exciting, innovative, and just plain cool things have been happening in our neighborhood in the last two weeks.

A Food Hall Right Here in DUMBO! Time Out New York announced last week that they are planning to open their second Market (the first is in Lisbon, Portugal!) in Empire Stores later this year! The Market will boast 20 expertly-curated food vendors from award-winning New York chefs, three bars, and a rooftop space so you can take in gorgeous views of the bridges while sampling some tasty foods.

Who runs the world? Girls! Nancy Kruger Cohen, Co-Founder and President of Mouth, was featured as one of Delish’s 10 Women-Run Food Businesses You Should Be Supporting. “As both a creative and a female, I probably had to work extra hard to earn a seat at the table, in terms of my involvement with the finance and fundraising sides of the business,” she says.

Robots taking over the world?! Just kidding. (Kind of). Opentrons, a DUMBO-based startup, has just raised $10 million in a seed funding round. Opentrons creates robots to automate the process of pipetting, a necessary part of getting DNA samples ready for sequencing. Their robots will cost 10 times less than traditional lab robots, making biotech a little more democratic.

Tip-top techies— say that ten times fast! Small Planet Digital was listed by Clutch as one of the top development companies in NYC. The mobile app designer and developer was mentioned in not one, not two, but three categories: App Developers, iPhone App Developers, and Software Developers!

And finally… if you’re heading out west this summer, you may find some familiar flavors. Gran Electrica just opened a West Coast location in Napa, featuring the same drinks, Mexican food, and good vibes we’ve come to know and love them for!

That’s all for now, #DUMBONYC!
