#DUMBODownload: April 27 Edition

It’s the end of another week, and you know what that means: another installment of the #DUMBODownload! The weather will be warming up soon (although it’s already the end of April… no, we’re not bitter about the weather at all!), and we’re starting to look ahead to the summer and all of the fun things that’ll be going on in our neighborhood.

A Hot Dog Bus… in Brooklyn Bridge Park?! Yep, you heard that right. The New York Times recently announced that this piece of art, sponsored by the Public Art Fund, will be created by Erwin Wurm and will open in June. From what we can tell, the piece will be based on one of Wurm’s older pieces of art, called “Curry Bus.” And get this, free hot dogs will be served from the vehicle throughout the summer— now that’s something we can get behind!

Lift Off! Brooklyn Bridge Park’s annual kite festival will return on Saturday, May 5th. In addition to kites, the festival will also feature live DJs, stilt walkers, and jugglers. The festival will officially kick off BBP’s summer programming season!

Office Envy! We all know and love West Elm, born and raised right here in DUMBO, but not everyone knows what their private offices look like. AOL recently featured them in their Wild Workspaces series— check out their video for some serious #officegoals!

Webby Winners! Roads & Kingdoms, DUMBO's resident online travel and adventure magazine and production company has won two Webby awards! Their new site Explore Parts Unknown, built by ANML studios in partnership with CNN, won in the Best Design Practices (Website) category; they also won in the Travel & Adventure (Film & Video) category for their seven-episode Land Rover series with Anthony Bourdain. Congrats!

DUMBO Artist to Watch! Last week, T: The New York Times Style Magazine featured Elliott Puckette, a DUMBO-based artist who utilizes various kinds of lines and muted palettes in her artwork. Elliott has a show opening soon at the Kasmin Gallery in Manhattan.

Add this to your summer reading list! Pulitzer Prize-winning DUMBO author Gilbert King has a new book out! Although its subject matter is far more serious than your typical beach read, Beneath a Ruthless Sun is sure to be a page-turner.

That’s all for this week, #DUMBONYC!
