Change is on the horizon for the Brooklyn Bridge

The idea of walking the Brooklyn Bridge may seem idyllic, but in reality, it makes a lot of people want to run in the opposite direction. There's good news though - it may be about to get a whole lot easier.

DOT realizes that the popularity of the Brooklyn Bridge, with locals and tourists alike, has started to make using it an extremely crowded, uncomfortable and often dangerous

affair. Lots of suggestions have already been circulated regarding how this can be changed, including widening the pedestrian promenade, creating a barrier between pedestrians and cyclists, or moving the cycle path next to the traffic lane. This week DOT took a big step forward by recruiting the consulting firm, Aecom to explore the possibilities.

At last, you may not feel guilty about stopping to take a photo, or feel like you're going to be hit by a bike at any moment.
