Blizzard Warning for Tuesday

Yes, after record warm weather, it looks like we have some potentially serious snow coming our way tomorrow, Tuesday, March 14. A blizzard warning is in effect for New York City from 12AM on 3/14 to 12AM on 3/15, and NYCEM has issued a hazardous travel advisory.

The current forecast calls for 12-20″ of snow, winds of 25-35mph with gusts up to 55mph, and cold temperatures. Snowfall rates of 2-4″ per hour are possible which may result in whiteout conditions & visibilities of less than a quarter mile. New Yorkers are advised to stay off the roads except in the event of an emergency. If you must travel, use mass transit.

NYC public schools will be closed on Tuesday March 14. NYC Department of Transportation has suspended alternate side parking regulations on Tuesday, 3/14 and Wednesday, 3/15 for snow removal (meters remain in effect.) Above-ground subway service will be suspended beginning at 4am, and Citibike is shutting down at 11pm.

The DUMBO Clean Team will be in the neighborhood to prep and deal with snow removal, and will prioritize service with a focus on shoveling and de-icing crosswalks and corners. Private commercial and residential property managers should be prepared to address conditions in front of their properties, including keeping the sidewalk clear of snow and ice with regular shoveling and de-icing.

Keep an eye on the DUMBO BID’s and NYC Office of Emergency Management’s twitter account for updates. You can keep track of where the Dept of Sanitation is plowing here.
