March First Thursday
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Our First Thursday Gallery Walk is March 1, and we’ve got your guide to the robust line-up of openings, performances, and cultural activity right here!
This month, be sure to make it to United Photo Industries for the opening reception of the Tokyo International Photography Competition 2017: Borders, which brings together eight photographers whose work is exhibited as part of a traveling exhibition. Next, head to 20 Jay Street Suite 307, where the New York Studio School Sculpture Studios will be hosting an opening reception for Objecthood, a group exhibition of work by advanced sculpture students. Then take the elevator up to the eighth floor to Asphodel for the opening reception of Belgian artist Stan Van Steedam’s inaugural US solo exhibition.
C.A.N.V.A.S Gallery, located in Suites 16 and 17 of The Shops at 145 Front Street, will present “Ultra Violet Pilot,” a unique take on art with visuals that are meant to stimulate your third eye under black light visual. The featured artist, “Rammer” Martinez, will be debuting his 2018 collection as well as a rare live painting.
Plus, just in time for Chinese New Year, projected onto the Manhattan Bridge, Light Year will present “Digital Fairy Tales: Chinese Stories,” the third installment of the Digital Fairy Tales series, which has appeared in multiple cities since 2016. Projections begin at dusk and continue until 10pm. Best place to view is from the Pearl Street Triangle (or the restaurants on that block!) Stop by the Media Center after to say hi to the Light Year artists and curators!
Galleries will stay open ’til 8pm – plenty of time to scope out new art and pop into one of DUMBO’s small shops and grab a bite at one of the neighborhood’s many restaurants and bars. And while you’re out, stop by Blanc and Rouge for their weekly wine tasting!
First Thursday is presented in conjunction with Art in DUMBO.
