Art + Culture

The Creators Project is Coming This Weekend

What do Sao Paulo, Paris, Beijing and DUMBO have in common? Thriving art scenes, brilliant creative minds, and The Creators Project. The highly-anticipated arts and technology festival will take place in DUMBO on Saturday October 15th and Sunday October 16th. After kicking off the project in NYC last year, the Creators Project toured the world with stops at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival and in cities such as Sao Paulo, London, Seoul, Paris and Beijing. Now, Vice and Intel’s festival returns to NYC – choosing DUMBO as its backdrop.

DUMBO will host music from Florence + The Machine, Four Tet, Atlas Sound, Queen Sea Big Shark, John Maus and Teen Daze, amongst others. The event will also include the world premiere of Karen O’s psycho-opera, Stop the Virgens at St. Anne’s Warehouse, a series of film screenings including a showing of the Spike Jonze-directed Arcade Fire short film Scenes From the Suburbs, Jonathan Glazer and J. Spaceman’s immersive sound installation, Mick Rock and Barney Clay’s David Bowie transfiguration (see video below) and Quayola’s latest work, Strata #4. Large scale installations are already taking shape at the Tobacco Warehouse and throughout the neighborhood.

The Creators Project is expected to draw thousands of visitors throughout the weekend. All concerts will take place on Saturday, October 15 at the Tobacco Warehouse from 12pm-10pm and in the Archway from 12pm-9pm. Exhibits will be open both Saturday and Sunday, including the Bowie piece which is screening at 10 Jay. The full line-up is below.

The weekend is free, as long as you RSVP. UPDATE: For Sunday programming, no RSVP is needed. Tickets must be purchased for all showings of Stop the Virgens at St. Ann’s. Access to Friday events, including the installations at the Tobacco Warehouse and 56 Water Street, does not require an RSVP. Capacity will be limited at venues throughout the weekend. Some street closures will be in place on Saturday.
