POV’s 2nd Hackathon Now Open for Applicants
POV (Point of View), an award-winning independent documentary series, has opened its call for participants for its 2nd Hackathon, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, January 12 and 13, 2012 at HUGE’s office at 45 Main Street in DUMBO. Applications must be received by Friday, December 7, 2012 at 5pm EST. Visit www.pbs.org/pov/hackathon/ to apply and follow POV’s blog for application tips.
POV is looking for directors, developers, and designers with bold visions for digital nonfiction projects and with web savviness to create working prototypes. POV will match filmmakers and developers to create 10 project teams. Filmmakers may submit documentary projects at any stage of production, from concept to post-production. Developers may bring their own libraries and toolkits, but it’s not a requirement.
In August 2012, five teams of filmmakers, developers, and designers spent 30 hours together during the 1st POV Hackathon to produce an iPad app that connects recipes with documentary video stories. The Hackathon organizers say, “We’re organizing POV Hackathon 2 in order to share what we’re learning about how documentary filmmakers can engage audiences around issues in new ways. We don’t know what people will come up with next, which is part of what makes these events so exciting.”
