On My Block Film Challenge Birthed in DUMBO
Anonymity goes hand in hand with New York City, even in a close-knit community like DUMBO. That’s why On My Block Films, spearheaded by DUMBO’s own Ryan O’Hara Theisen (of Lucky Branded Entertainment) has conjured up an idea to bring New Yorkers together through the collaborative filmmaking process. OMBF is challenging residents of the five boroughs to create a one to five minute short narrative or documentary on their block, with only neighborhood residents as the cast and crew.
The competition revs up August 1st, and films can be submitted until October 31st (via Vimeo). Viewers get to vote for their favorites on a rolling basis through October and the 30 films with the most votes will head to a judging panel. The judges will pick 15 winners to be screened at an outdoor festival in November. They’ll also give out awards for Best Narrative Film, Best Documentary and Best in Show.
Details on the competition and how to submit your movie are on the OMBF website. So what are you waiting for? Interested in starting a team but need us to help find community members? Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
