KiwiSweat Pops Up in DUMBO
Last month we wrote about a pop-up pizza experience, this month we are following up with a different kind of pop-up – a place where you can work off that pizza… KiwiSweat: The Pop-up Workout. KiwiSweat hosts pop-up fitness events around New York City, breaking up the monotony of attending the same class at the same place at the same time week after week. Launched earlier in October at Chelsea Market, KiwiSweat (recently written up in the Wall Street Journal) is the brainchild of Alicia Thomas and Pam Graf and arrives in DUMBO on November 3rd for four days of classes at 81 Front Street.
Alicia and Pam have recruited some of the city’s hottest spin instructors (think Equinox, Reebok and Crunch) who will teach spinners of all experience levels. Alicia tells us that her relationship with DUMBO goes all the way back to 2006 when she lived here and that every time she returns she finds the area better than before. “There is an energy in DUMBO that you just don’t find elsewhere, a vibe that speaks to living and working and loving what you do, and we want KiwiSweat to be a part of that.” Pam adds that she “sees the companies in DUMBO working together, not against each other, to the benefit of all, and KiwiSweat would love to join the neighborhood when we’re ready for a dedicated office space.”
There are 40 bikes in a class, and you can make your reservations and pay online. To show their love for DUMBO, KiwiSweat is offering a 25% discount to groups of three or more.
More about KiwiSweat in DUMBO:
- Classes are open to cyclists of all skills; you control the tension on your bike (Alicia and Pam do suggest Sweat: Keep It Real for those looking for a beginners class). Some classes will feature live DJs (Reign Hudson even brought live drummers to a class last week in Chelsea).
- Pay per class with zero membership fees.
- Be aware that bikes are released 5 minutes before class, and to get a full refund on a reservation, you must cancel by email or phone at least 24 hours in advance.
- On November 3rd, BluePrintCleanse will join them with info about their juices.
Finally, if you happen to miss KiwiSweat in DUMBO, they will be on Bergen Street next – from November 17th to the 20th.
