Jane’s Carousel Marks First Year in Brooklyn Bridge Park
It is hard for us to remember a time when Jane’s Carousel wasn’t a part of Brooklyn Bridge Park, but really, it has only been open for a year. And what a year it has been! Since its opening on September 16, 2011, thousands of visitors from near and far have come to see the beautiful carousel and pavilion. They’ve had over 250,000 riders – which is like having everyone who lives in Youngstown, Ohio (where the carousel was originally located) ride Jane’s Carousel 4 times in one year!
If you weren’t able to travel to see the Carousel in person, you might have seen it in print. Jane’s Carousel has been featured in photo shoots for a Harper Bazaar cover story, Seventeen Magazine, Travel & Leisure, Vogue Knitting, Parenting, Elle Décor-Japan, and many other magazines. It has also made appearances in local and international commercials and films. Last April, Martha Stewart herself visited the Carousel, and Jane and Martha talked about their grandchildren!
The Carousel was awarded the 2012 Travel & Leisure Design Award for The Best Public Space, a Brooklyn Chamber 2012 Building Brooklyn Award, and the 2012 Municipal Arts Society MASterworks Award for the Best New Urban Amenity.
Starting the week of October 15, The Carousel hours will shift to its fall season open on Thursdays through Sundays from 11AM to 6PM.
What an amazing year it has been, and we look forward to many, many more!
