It’s Smack Mellon Open Studio Season!
Smack Mellon is pleased to offer the unique chance to enter the private studios of their 2013-2014 fellowship artists as they complete their residencies. The artists will have their latest work-in-progress on view, and visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists in their studios March 15-16.
ArtFCity recommends the work of DUMBO Arts Festival 2013 grand prize winner Bryan Zanisnik, who is known for transforming spaces with childhood memorabilia, photos and objects. The art blog also notes, “We’re not overly familiar with many of the other artists, and we take that to be a good sign; Smack Mellon always introduces us to new talent.”
Smack Mellon’s Artist Studio Program was launched in 2000 in response to the crisis in availability of affordable workspace for New York City artists. The program free private studio space accessible 24/7 along with sponsored visits from curators, critics and gallerists. Each year, Smack Mellon convenes a panel of arts professionals to select the artists from over 600 applicants.
The open studio line-up includes:
March 15, 12-8pm
March 16, 12-6pm
