Hackathon Alert: Help Create A Financial Empowerment App
The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE) has announced the Financial Empowerment Hackathon to be held at the DUMBO Loft March 2 – 3. In order to strengthen their work on financial education, OFE is calling on developers and designers to help them create an app that will empower New Yorkers to achieve their financial goals. So join them on their two-day event to code and compete for prizes and a chance to help New Yorkers move forward financially.
What’s OFE? Since their first Financial Empowerment Center opened in 2008, OFE has helped tens of thousands of New Yorkers reduce their debt by millions of dollars and take control of their finances. Centers offer free, one-on-one financial counseling across the five boroughs.
The team or individual who creates the winning app will receive $1,000; two second place winners will receive prizes of $500 each.
Prizes will be awarded by a panel of judges that includes:
- Hrishi Dixit, Chief Technology Officer at LearnVest
- Jonathan Mintz, Commissioner, Department of Consumer Affairs
- Arnaud Sahuguet, Product Manager at Google.org
- Will Tucker, Vice President at ideas42
- Phil Kim, Head of Capital One Labs NYC
