Granite Cobble Mock-Up on View at Pier 6

NYCDOT and NYCDDC invite you to preview and comment on their plans for reconstructing DUMBO and Vinegar Hill’s historic streets. They have constructed granite cobble mock-ups to show two designs: one using old cobblestone and historic granite strip for bikes, and one using new granite cobbles selected to look like the originals. The area streets, along with the centuries old sewer and water lines below, are slated for reconstruction starting next year.  The mock ups will be on view to the public and DOT will be on hand to take your feedback on the design and stones.

The granite cobble mock-ups were designed based on public comments made during several community input sessions earlier this year. The engineers and designers will evaluate the streets for use by all vehicles – cars, bikes and pedestrians. The public is encouraged to comment on the design and materials – as several options for reuse of old and introduction of new materials will be presented. Comments will be taken on site and can also be emailed to plazas@dot.nyc.gov.

These comments will be incorporated into a design package that will then be presented to Community Board 2 on July 22 for project approval. The design will also need approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission this fall.

Work will take place on streets as indicated in the map below (Yellow = DOT scope / full street and plaza reconstruction; Blue = DEP scope / water and sewer reconstruction).
