First Thursday Spotlight: Whitney Wood Bailey
DUMBO’s First Thursday Gallery Walk is May 2, which means galleries and shops across the neighborhood are staying open late to showcase a range of cultural goodies.
This month, our top pick is DUMBO-based artist Whitney Wood Bailey‘s Collective Harmonies, showing at Gallery 200 in 111 Front Street. (If the work looks familiar, perhaps you viewed it during the 2012 DUMBO Arts Festival, when Wood Bailey opened up her studio to the public, winning the AT&T Audience Award along with the opportunity to showcase her work in DUMBO’s gallery building.)
Collective Harmonies features new large-scale paintings that feature both organic and highly controlled painting techniques. According to Wood Bailey: “My work provides a field for contemplating an intersection of faith and reason with intuition and logic. It is driven by questions of a metaphysical nature such as how design and orchestration within nature affects our consciousness and how the extraordinary geometries within nature’s design demand the consideration of intelligent design as well as our notions of spirituality.”
