Art + Culture
First Thursday is September 6
DUMBO’s First Thursday Gallery Walk is September 3, and we’re celebrating the start of fall with pop-up galleries, projections on the bridge, and tunes under the Archway.
Here’s your guide to the openings, performances, and cultural activities happening across the neighborhood:
This month, Light Year is taking us across the pond, with a show curated by Budapest-based Patrick Urwyler and Bogi Mittich that looks catalyze international exchange. Under the Archway we have a trio of DJs curated by DUMBO’s own Turntable Labs, with a special performance by Kate Brehm’s poofs.
As always, galleries around the neighborhood stay open ’til 9 — perfect opportunity to scope out new art and then grab a bite or a drink at one of our great local restaurants or pop into one of DUMBO’s small shops. This month, we can’t wait to check out Porter Contemporary’s pop up show Johnny Romeo: Angry Birds, as well as Trips, an exhibition at Made in NY Media Center curated by Leo Kuelbs and Anderson Zaca: Block Party, NYC Soul of Summer opening at United Photo Industries.
All events are open to the public; most events listed here are free. Rail businesses also join the festivities with extended hours and in-store events. Fuel your evening of gallery-hopping with a pitstop at one of our local bars and restaurants – find a full list of neighborhood happy hour specials here.
