Art + Culture
First Thursday Gallery Walk is September 5
Let the countdown to the DUMBO Arts Festival begin! Before the big event takes over the neighborhood September 27-29, come sample the local art scene at DUMBO’s First Thursday Gallery Walk on September 5. We’ve got your guide to the robust line-up of openings, performances and cultural activity right here on the DUMBO Decoder!
This month, we’ve got art indoors and out, with the launch of DUMBO Walls, sponsored by the DUMBO Improvement District and Two Trees Management Co in partnership with the NYC Department of Transportation and the Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Using brick wall as a canvas, eight international artists — CAM, DALeast, Eltono, Shepard Fairey, Faith47, MOMO, Stefan Sagmeister and Yuko Shimizu — transform DUMBO’s streetscape into a vibrant mural destination. Indoors, we can’t wait to check out Steven Dobbin’s mixed media sculptures at Causey Contemporary. And don’t miss street artist NYCHOS at Mighty Tanaka — show closes September 6.
Last but not least, we’re thrilled to announce that Jane’s Carousel has won the Red Tricycle Totally Awesome Award in the Best Parks & Playground category! The ride stays open ’til 7pm through Sept 29 and tickets are just $2. Pony up, DUMBO!
