Art + Culture

First Thursday Gallery Walk is May 7

DUMBO’s First Thursday Gallery Walk is May 7, and this month has some special treats in store. Light Year will light up the Manhattan Bridge — the first in a year-long series of video art projections on the bridge — and, in the Archway, Charlotte Gaspard delights with shadow puppetry and music.

Here’s your guide to the openings, performances, and cultural activities happening across the neighborhood:

As always, galleries around the neighborhood stay open ’til 9 — perfect opportunity to scope out new art and then grab a bite or a drink at one of our great local restaurants or pop into one of DUMBO’s small shops.

Lots of gallery picks this month! We can’t wait to check out the A.I.R. Gallery: they’ve just moved into their shiny new gallery space at 155 Plymouth, and are celebrating with three great artists. Stop by IFP MINY Media Center’s Examining Darkness opening to catch American avant-garde metal guitarist Mick Barr’s set, and don’t miss PotLuck, the group show from the AICAD/New York Studio Residency Program — it’s only open on May 7!
