Final Week of CoolNY 2014 Dance Festival

Did you get a chance to catch a free performance at WHITE WAVE’s 11th Annual CoolNY Dance Festival yet? Check out some of the contemporary dance companies that will be performing during this final week of the festival.

THURS. 2/6 & SAT. 2/8 7:00 PM

Tomomi Imai

Part of Program E’s lineup is the talented dancer and choreographer, Tomomi Imai, who has recently received a significant award for her newest piece “Undertow” in Japan. The distinguishing feature of her compositions and performances is enormous power and passion expressed in fluid yet articulated movements with a contrasting smooth restraint that multiplies their expressiveness. This engages the viewer yet maintains aesthetic distance. However strong the theme and performance, it is art that is unfolding and not real life. This distinction is one Ms Imai insists on and strictly maintains in dance.

THURS. 2/6 9:00 PM & SUN. 2/9 4:00 PM

The Brooklyn Dance Ensemble

The Brooklyn Dance Ensemble will be part of Program F’s performances on Thursday and Sunday. BDE has recently been scene performing with rave reviews throughout NYC in 2013, including NYC10 at Dixon Place and at The Salt Marsh Nature Center in Oct of this year.

FRI. 2/7 7:00 PM & SAT. 2/8 9:00 PM

Part of Program G is boomerang, a fearlessly physical, poetically nuanced dance and performance project comprised of choreographer Kora Radella with performers Matty Davis and Adrian Galvin. In the last year they have performed in New York City at venues including Dixon Place, Center for Performance Research, Triskelion Arts and the John Ryan Theater.

FRI. 2/7 9:00 PM & SUN. 2/9 6:00PM

Monica Hogan Danceworks

Part of Program H’s presentation is Monica Hogan Danceworks, a distinctive contemporary company based in New York City. Monica Hogan creates works that draw on inherent themes of the human experience, re-imagining archetypal relationships through compositional innovation. With stylistic virtuosity, the company is known for performing with a clarity of vision and musicality that communicates through athletic and intentional movement.
