DUMBO Cobblestone Design is Brilliant
What’s less despicable than Cola-flavored wine, more highbrow than the newly-published Sock Monkey Kama Sutra, but slightly less brilliant than Mariano Rivera’s All-Star entrance?
The DUMBO Cobblestone plan – approved by Community Board 2 this week of course!
This week, Community Board 2 approved the plans for DUMBO’s streets at its executive committee meeting on July 22. The design that will be advanced is based on the “winning” cobblestone mock-up on display earlier this month – which will re-use old original Belgium Blocks and add a granite strip for bikeability to DUMBO and Vinegar Hill streets. This option was the overwhelming community favorite. (Check out the full CB2 presentation here.) Next stop on the DUMBO street reconstruction journey: Landmarks Preservation Commission in September.
Using a photo by Gothamist, this week’s New York approval matrix ranks the proposed granite-bike-path-and-salvaged-cobbestone design in the Brilliant + Lowbrow category.
