DUMBO Arts Festival Must See: Battle Royal
This ain’t your mother’s steel cage match.
Artist Shaun ‘El C.’ Leonardo is putting himself and 14 others into a steel cage, blindfolded, to fight until there is one man left standing. Inspired by the opening scene in Ralph Ellison’s The Invisible Man, the match is an intense, theatrical recreation of the book’s opening scene; occupying a space between fictional representation, wrestling spectacle and art performance.
The New York Foundation for the Arts describes Leonardo’s performances as events that, “…notoriously rouse stoic art audiences to cheer and squeal like they’re at a sporting event. And they are, in a sense.” So get ready for some action!
The Battle Royal will be taking place on Saturday starting at 3pm at the Pearl Street Triangle.
