Celebrate the summer solstice in DUMBO!

June 21st benefits from many distinctions. It’s the summer solstice. It’s the international day of yoga. And, it’s make music day. Celebrate all three in DUMBO!

Here’s a round up of the amazing events happening in the neighborhood this Sunday, June 21:

Free outdoor concerts around DUMBO: DURING THE DAY

Make Music New York (MMNY) returns to celebrate the start of summer in the best way possible: free outdoor concerts. Over 1,200 jam sessions, mass appeal events and musical performances will transform New York’s streets into the biggest music festival of the year. In DUMBO, we’re celebrating world music day with a world music orchestra on Pier Onea hum-a-long, a synthesizer meet up and blues at Superfine.

Details, including times & addressed for all DUMBO concerts, are in the MMNY program.

Silent Yoga AT 6:30PM

We’ve partnered with Sound Off Experience to celebrate the international day of yoga with a free, silent yoga class under the Archway! Immerse yourself in the beauty and motion of yoga with a pair of Sound Off noise-isolating wireless LED headphones, which let you hear the instructor at the perfect level while a Sound Off DJ takes you on a musical journey.

What? Silent Yoga? Here’s what you have in store:

Yoga class is from 6:30 — 7:30 in the Archway under the Manhattan Bridge. Free. BYOMat!

SILENT DANCE PARTY: 8pm – 10PM

Finish off your solstice with a silent disco in the Archway under the Manhattan Bridge! For a second year, the DUMBO BID is partnering with Make Music New York and Sound Off Experience  – a global leader in wireless headphone event production – for a silent dance party to round out Make Music day!

Participants will receive a set of wireless noise canceling headphones, giving them full control over their music experience.  Thanks to separate DJ sets, partygoers may find themselves dancing to dubstep while their neighbors gyrate to hip hop.  Only participants wearing headphones will be able to hear the music.

If you’re not a fan of club music, silent discos are fun even just to watch as the participants dance to what seems like silence.  The best part?  Dancing and conversations are usually exclusive activities at the club but not at the silent disco.  If you want to take a break, slip off your headphones and talk to your friends, no shouting necessary.

The party kicks off at 8pm. Make Music New York DJs DJ Truth (rock, pop, hip-hop), DJ Khybot (dubstep, d&b) and DJ Mefta (hip hop) will be spinning tunes until 10pm. Free!

This will be a day you won’t want to miss!
