Brooklyn Waterfront Epic Ride Rolls Through DUMBO

The Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, which will run through DUMBO connecting Greenpoint to Sunset Park, has been in the works for nearly a decade. The 14-mile route will be the first of its kind in Brooklyn and will be welcomed amenity for two-wheeling weekenders and commuters alike. Consisting of separated bike and pedestrians lanes, the route largely follows the contours of the East River and will be a key component to the revitalization of Brooklyn’s waterfront districts. Currently, two sections of the greenway are under construction, and the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative are still seeking additional funding for the remaining 21 sections.

To demonstrate the potential of a completed greenway, the fifth annual Brooklyn Waterfront Epic Ride will take place July 27. The forty mile ride follows the Greenway’s East River route, then continues along the coast to a Rockaway Beach finish complete with food and music.

Part of the ride will roll through DUMBO on Plymouth Street and the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative is looking for additional sponsors in the neighborhood. The ride will also offer team registration for the first time this year — a great opportunity for DUMBO’s business community to get involved! Corporate teams of four riders will get a reduced price — not to mention a great team bonding experience.
