Break out the Seersucker: Smack Mellon Derby Party May 3

Smack Mellon’s annual Kentucky Derby Party returns this year and is more important than ever before for one of DUMBO’s favorite destinations.  The gallery’s picturesque location on the corner of Plymouth and Washington Streets left them especially vulnerable during Hurricane Sandy.  The building took on over 6 feet of floodwater and destroyed the lower level which houses their artists’ studios, media lab, kitchen, restrooms and elevator mechanicals.

That said – we speak from experience when saying that this event is the best way to take in the action at Churchill Downs from the comfort of Brooklyn!  One $300 ticket admits two to the party – seersucker and hat, suggested – stuffs you full of delicious food and mint juleps and guarantees that you walk away with a piece of art. Buy your tickets here.

Place your bet on the horse of your choice; bet right and you’ll pick first from the diverse selection of talented artists.  Pick last? Don’t worry, there’s art for all!  There’s also a silent auction.

Crowd-pleasing Master of Ceremonies the World Famous *BOB* returns to run the show, accompanied by the The Birdhive Boys.

The Derby Party supports Smack Mellon’s Programs. Their mission is to nurture and support emerging, under-recognized mid-career and women artists in the creation and exhibition of new work, by providing exhibition opportunities, studio workspace, and access to equipment and technical assistance for the realization of ambitious projects.

Save the date: Saturday, May 3 @ 4pm. See you at the race!
